PRESS RELEASE ISSAQUAH HISTORICAL SOCIETY HONORS 90 VOLUNTEERS Issaquah, Wash. – On Thursday, April 1, the Issaquah Historical held its fourth annual Volunteer Awards Night at the Issaquah Depot. The society honored 90 volunteers who make the society’s historic preservation and education work possible. More than 50 guests attended the event, where they enjoyed cake and other refreshments. Musicians Tim Lewis and Nan Sargeant (also known as 28th Avenue) were on hand to provide music. Each volunteer who contributed their time and energy to the Society’s historic preservation and education work during 2003 was recognized (see attached list). In addition, five volunteers received special awards for their efforts. They are: Jim Loring, Star Docent. Jim donated 107 hours as a docent during 2003. He also volunteers for the Issaquah Historical Society in a number of other capacities. Jim received a gift certificate from the Rogue Issaquah Brewhouse. Dale Martin, Star Shop Volunteer. Dale has been volunteering with the Issaquah Historical Society for twenty years. Last year he contributed more than 180 hours towards restoring rolling stock and other artifacts, as well as doing general repair and maintenance work. Dale received a gift certificate to Lewis Hardware Store. Lou Davey, Start Trolley Volunteer. Lou has made great contributions toward the restoration of Issaquah's trolleys in the past year. The trolley committee honored him with a gift certificate to the Flying Pie Pizzeria in downtown Issaquah Penny Miller, Start Special Projects Volunteer. Penny contributed 225 volunteer hours last year. Penny has been conducting a full collections inventory and entering all the information into the museums’ database. Penny received a massage gift certificate for Radiance Healing in Issaquah. Don McWhirter, Volunteer of the Year. contributed more than 400 hours of volunteer service during 2003. As the organization’s treasurer, he has gone above and beyond the call of duty to convert all our accounting to a new system and put policies in place where needed. He also participates on the Facilities Committee and the Trolley Committee. Don can always be counted upon to do what needs doing and to pitch in where there is need. As a token of our appreciation, Don will receive a gift certificate good for 2 tickets to a Village Theatre performance. We will also inscribe a brick in honor of his work with the organization. The Issaquah Historical Society thanks local merchants who generously donated the gifts awarded to our volunteers.
