Issaquah Historical Society to Hold Heritage Day Event

On Sunday July 4, the Issaquah Historical Society will hold its third annual Heritage Day event in conjunction with the community’s Down Home Fourth of July Celebration. Activities will take place at the Issaquah Depot (50 Rainier Boulevard N) and the logging display near Bush Street and First Avenue, lasting from 11 AM until 2 PM.  The event is free to the public.

The aim of Heritage Day is for people to get their hands on history.  There will be opportunities to learn more about the history of Issaquah while splitting a cedar shingle, using homemade soap to scrub clothes, operating a historic pump car, or whipping cream into butter.

In addition to historic hands-on activities, there will also be demonstrations of vintage logging machinery and an old hit-and-miss engine, as well as live music, a silent auction, and a dress-up corner for kids. Participants should start at the Depot in order to pick up their passports to the past.

The Issaquah Historical Society is also seeking volunteers to help with these activities. Please contact the Issaquah Historical Society for more information on this event, or to participate as a volunteer.
