Quarterly history nights start at 7pm at the Historic Railroad Depot, and last an hour to an hour and a half. A short membership business meeting may precede each presentation.
Other Events of InterestFourth Wednesdays - Trolley Project Meeting Anyone interested in learning about the TROLLEY PROJECT is invited to informal meetings to be held the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Issaquah Depot. Meetings start at 7 PM, and feature refreshments, project updates, programs and socializing. Friday, July 4th - Issaquah In Wartime Exhibit Opens The ISSAQUAH IN WARTIME EXHIBIT will open to the public on Friday, July 4 at the Gilman Town Hall. Opening festivities will include screenings of 1950’s era civil defense films starting at 11 AM, noon, 1 PM, and 2 PM, at the Issaquah Depot freight room. There is no admission fee to attend. IHS members and community VIPs are also invited to a special members-only opening on Friday, June 27. July 18th, 19th, 20th - Trolley Garage Sale
The Issaquah Valley Trolley committee will hold a GARAGE SALE on July 19 and 20. Proceeds will benefit the Trolley Project. We are currently accepting donated items for the garage sale. Please take some time to clean out your garage, storage shed, and cabinets and pass your cast-offs (no clothing items, please) to the trolley committee. July 18th, 19th, 20th - 19th Annual Quilt Show The Block Party Quilters will hold their 19TH ANNUAL QUILT SHOW on July 18-20 at the Issaquah Community Center. The quilt show, titled “Spirit of the Northwest”, will be open from 10 AM until 6 PM on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 AM until 4 PM on Sunday. The show will feature more than 200 quilts. Saturday August 16th - Heritage Day Mark your calendars now for HERITAGE DAY on Saturday, August 16, from 10 AM until 4 PM. Heritage Day will provide an opportunity for kids and adults alike to get their hands on history. Activities will include splitting cedar shingles, quilting, planting corn, making butter, and many more. Saturday, September 13, Fall Mining Hike The Issaquah Historical Society, in collaboration with the Newcastle Historical Society, will sponsor a mining history hike on Saturday, September 13. Linda Hjelm, longtime IHS volunteer and author of Fire Rock, will give a talk on mining in the Issaquah area. The presentation will begin at 10 AM in the Depot freight room. Following the presentation, participants will travel in their own vehicles (carpooling is encouraged; maps will be provided) to Newcastle, where Milt Swanson will lead the group on a walking tour of old mining sites. Don’t miss this chance to learn about our region’s coal-mining history on location! Admission to the lecture is $5 for the general public; members of the Issaquah Historical Society or the Newcastle Historical Society attend for free. Saturday, October 25th Here's a great opportunity to have a little spooky fun and support the trolley. The Issaquah Valley Trolley Team invites you to our Spooktacular Halloween celebration at the train depot on Oct. 25th from 7 to 11pm. Prizes for the best costume and carved pumpkin. Tickets will be $15 and proceeds benefit the Trolley. Call Penny to get your tickets 425-392-0247. Saturday, December 6th We will be hosting a holiday open house for the community on Saturday, December 6 from noon to 6 PM at the Depot.
