Informational Programs

The society's bi-monthly meetings are open to the public! Join us as we review a different aspects as local history at each meeting as told by people who remember!  The meetings start at 7pm at the Historic Railroad Depot, and last an hour to an hour and a half.

Tuesday, February 8th 

Issaquah in the Eyes of a Third Grader
A presentation by Dale and Leila Martin, who presented Issaquah History to students in the Issaquah School District for many years.
Tuesday, April 11th Telegrapher Frank Remington will speak on the history of the telegraph and how it influenced the railroad. He will also display and demonstrate some items from his collection of historic telegraph equipment.
Thursday, June 13th Issaquah Dairy History, presented by members of the Bergsma Family.
Tuesday, August 8th Ben Martinez, Issaquah Police Department Historian, will present on the history of law enforcement in Issaquah. The meeting will commence at 7 PM. This meeting will be held in the community room of the new police station.
Tuesday, October 10th Yakima's trolley #1976 will soon be coming to Issaquah, and our October program will focus on the history of trolleys in Yakima! Our special guest, Ken Johnsen, is a former trolley operator and author of the book "Yakima Valley Interurban."

[Due to our annual business meeting at 7:00, this program will start at 7:30]

Sunday June 25, 2000, 10:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
at the Historic Railroad Depot

Issaquah Historical Society presents
"From Apron Strings to Tin Pants"

The public is invited to see the old time tools of both the homemaker and the logger.  Participate in hands-on activities such as: bucking a log, splitting cedar shakes, and ironing using sad irons. See other homemaking skills being performed. Many photos and logging tools will be on display.

Refreshments and other entertainment will be provided. Admission is free.

Old-timers and newcomers alike are welcome! Visit Issaquah's two museums, see special displays by long-term residents, and have fun! This year's Program is dedicated to the memory of Dave Horrocks.

Community Fourth of July Celebration - July 4

Tuesday, July 4th: Both museums will be open and the Historical Society will be operating its historic pump car.

Issaquah Salmon Days Festival - October 7-8

Salmon Days 2000 Kids, Chaos, & Coho
The 30th Anniversary Issaquah Salmon Days Festival.

Saturday & Sunday, October 7 & 8, 2000
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily
In Historic Downtown Issaquah

Celebrating the return of salmon to our lakes, streams, and downtown hatchery every fall, with a weekend of nonstop activities.  Arts, Crafts, Food, Live Entertainment, Grand Parade, Hatchery Tours and More.

Presented by the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce.

Both the Depot and Gilman Town Hall Museums will be open throughout Salmon Days, along with both gift shops.  The Society will also have Historic Pump Car rides and Pop and Popcorn, and, hopefully, trolley rides
