Front Street Looking North - circa 1911

This circa 1911 photo of Front Street, looking north from Mill Street (now Sunset Way), leaves us to ponder the traffic rules of the day. Note that the horses and wagons are parked on the right, or east side of the street, and cars are on the left, or west side of the street. In regards to shops of the day, the Pastime will later become the Issaquah Cafe.

Of course, that location is currently the site of the new library under construction. Under the Pastime sign is a sign for The Palace of Sweets, operated by Annie Favini, Edith McQuade and Ethel McQuade. The railroad tracks were installed in 1910. The rails crossed the middle of the intersection en route to the mines on Mine Hill Road.
